Interview with Icono
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: This is a good one. But I think I will be good with the basics, Laptop, Audio interface and Headphones. AC and a cup of coffee could be nice.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I think anyone who can bring new ideas to the table and think differently as I do can be interesting to work with 🙂
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Here’s a list: ⚡ Progressive House ⚡ Deep House ⚡ Future House ⚡ Future Bass ⚡ Dance Pop ⚡ Tech House ⚡ Big Room I have also worked adapting with piano or violin composer/classical music to a modern arrangement.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is the selection of elements, sounds, and instruments together with song production, having good sounds and solid ideas from the beginning can make the whole production process smoother and make it easier to have professional sounding results.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: This is how my typical workflow process looks like: A) After discussing with the client and having a clear idea of what he’s aiming to, I take around 4 to 7 days to develop a full arrangement demo. B) After the full arrangement demo approval we go back and forth until we have the final version C) When everything is ready, payment is released and I send forward any relevant files based on the hired service 🙂
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Most of the gig people reach out to me are Co-Production, they come up with an idea, and I shaped based on their thoughts and references. Although is my most popular gig, I also have done several jobs of Ghost Production, Mixing, Mastering, Sound Design and so on.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I currently work with the following setup: Custom-made pc with ryzen 7 processor and 32 GB of RAM. Focusrite 2I2 2nd Generation KRK KNS 8400 Headphones M Audio Oxygen Keyboard Yamaha HS5 Studio monitors AT2020 Condenser Microphone Several bluetooth sound speakers (for comparing in common audio setups)
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: Long story short, I have been making music for over 15 years now. Back in 2020 I found a nicky romero’s plugin ad called kickstart and after that, I was spending a lot of time trying to make Ableton work, it’s been a journey definitely.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: This is always evolving and changing, but right now if I have to define it, I would say chilled and melodic, if that’s makes any sense.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: This can change a lot depending on the gig, to keep it general, I always aim to enhance the client’s idea rather than changing everything up (unless that is what he/she wants). It could be a switch between technical and artistic needs.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Just to name a few: Avicii, Martin Garrix, David Guetta, Skrillex , DJ Snake, Fred Again, Steve Aoki
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: There’s no such thing as an overnight success, even artist and songs that go viral has a ton of work behind it. In electronic music, a DJ is not the same as a Producer.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Find someone who gets your vision and understand what you want, and help you achieve it.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Knowing a thousand tips on how to make a track sounds good is useless if you don’t know how to apply them to every specific and unique situation.
